Born as the son of a very wealthy and proud man, Francis' early years included, hanging out and partying, spending his dad's money, and fighting for country (France). It took a war, a year of imprisonment, and on his way to fight yet another war when he was visited by Jesus and did a complete 180. He gave everything away, including his inheritance and went into a life of poverty monetarily, but an abundance of love and compassion. He began to care for the sick and needy and helped to construct churches. He was known to influence the weather and multiply food! Francis considered all life his brother, including all animals. He had a deep love and beautiful relationship with nature. The sparrow was as much his brother as the pope.

Francis would be wonderful saint to call upon when needing help with the healing or the passage of any animal. Other wonderful things to call upon St. Francis of Assisi for would be

* Fill your heart with gratitude and love

* Find and follow your bliss

* Protect your home

* Feel God's presence in everything

The Prayer of Saint Francis

"O lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace!

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is discord, harmony;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light, and

Where there is sorrow, joy.

Oh Divine Master, grant that I may not

seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand; to be loved

as to love; for it is in the giving that we receive;

It is in the pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in the dying that we are born into Eternal Life."
