Reiki Healing for Lupus

Updated: Aug 25, 2020

What Is Lupus?

Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body. Research estimates that at least 1.5 million Americans have lupus. Autoimmune diseases, like lupus, means that the immune system is not functioning properly. The fighting, killing off, and sweeping away foreign invaders like viruses, bacteria, germs, etc. is not quite doing its job and as with many autoimmune diseases, there is no definite answer as to why. It appears that genes may play a role, as well as possibly being triggered by things such as illness, injury, or a long period of stress. Normally our bodies create antibodies (anti-foreign body) that attacks whatever may come along that doesn't belong there. Unfortunately, with autoimmune, the body has trouble deciphering what belongs and what doesn't and proceeds to attack healthy tissue in its confusion using auto-antibodies resulting in inflammation, pain, and damage to various parts of the body.

Signs and Symptoms of Lupus

"Flare" ups of lupus are unpredictable and seem to just appear out of nowhere. Some days flares are more intense than others, often triggered by stress and exposure to ultraviolet light. Symptoms vary and may include:

  • Skin rashes (both on the face and body)

  • Joint and muscle pain

  • Hair loss

  • Fatigue

  • Mouth and nose ulcers

  • Chest pain (as a result of inflammation of the lining of the heart or lungs)

  • Anemia (a deficiency in the number or quality of red blood cells)

  • Poor kidney function

  • Seizures or visual disturbances (resulting from inflammation of the nervous system)

  • Fever

What is Reiki?

All around us is what is known as universal life energy.  This energy can have a positive or negative effect on a person's body and emotions.  The Japanese technique of Reiki healing works with this energy force to improve a person's life through the "laying on of hands." Why Reiki Healing?

Pain from lupus can be excruciating. Reiki healing does not require that the therapist touch the patient, avoiding additional pain. Reiki has been shown to help relieve pain, improve sleep, and alleviate accompanying depression and anxiety that are common with this condition.

Reiki can help with:

  • Physical pain - Those with lupus say that the pain can be quite severe at times. Aching, swelling of the joints, muscle pain, cramping, burning

  • Skin rashes, itching, burning

  • Helps with fatigue, anxiety, and depression which are common for those dealing with lupus.

  • Improve daily life

Many of these things are symptoms that those with lupus have to deal with sometimes on a daily basis. In One's Element does not claim that Reiki will cure or even alleviate symptoms for every lupus sufferer. Clinical studies are rare, we can really, for most illness/disease, only go off of the many testimonials. We do believe that this treatment can work very well in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to help relieve side effects and promote recovery.

In One's Element offers discounts for those with different chronic conditions to give a chance for an alternative like Reiki healing therapy to make an impact on the sufferer. To give an opportunity to try something that maybe they have never considered. If you have lupus, reach out to us. Reiki can be very effective in helping with virtually every lupus-associated pain and creates a beneficial effect.
