Where Has All the Magic Gone?

Passion, pleasure, openness, creativity...the magic in every day life. Losing yourself to your emotions and really, I mean really, feeling them? Giving yourself over to those wonders that make your soul tick and feel at one with peace? It's been a long time for me, too, so don't beat yourself up. We are living in a fickle society. One in which sexuality is exploited yet taboo; "do what you are passionate about," is preached but not taught; living an authentic life while staying within the bounds of what is "okay." These contradictions surround and encompass us. Our soul screams for release but emotions have been labeled good and bad. My three-year-old is currently obsessed with Frozen and the phrase "conceal it, don't feel it, don't let it show," comes to mind. It's acceptable to have passion and creativity and sensuality so long as it's concealed, suppressed, and kept in the dark.
The issue I take with all this is the effect it has on our second chakra. We are intentionally creating an imbalance in the sacral chakra, devoid from fully experiencing life. Swadhisthana is the center of pleasure, intimacy, connection, feeling and emotions. We are primed from an early age to forgo all these amazing things, perpetuating an imbalance from generation to generation. The optimist in me wants to think of how amazing our world would be if everyone was able to achieve a fully open, balanced sacral chakra. The realist in me struggles with keeping my own balance all the time. It's a hard cycle to break.
Envision a babbling brook or the waves of the ocean rolling towards the shore. There is a peacefulness in the fluidity of the way the water moves. Calmness encompasses the body; creativity sparks. This serenity that comes from being near water is the sacral chakra restoring balance. That feeling of passion for life is possible to achieve despite the chaos of our society. Passion is creativity in the making; creativity changes the soul; the soul lends to deeper connections; deeper connections lead to passion. Harnessing the power of this chakra brings a life filled with, well, life!
As with the root chakra, it's possible to have either an overactive or deficient energy flow. Paying close attention to how you feel and your actions can help you determine whether or not you have an imbalance in the sacral chakra.

Deficient energy flow*:
Feel inhibited about expressing emotions
Emotionally withdrawn
Creatively blocked
Overthink everything
Sexually frigid/low libido
Difficulty maintaining relationships
Excessive energy flow*:
Emotionally reactive/thrive on drama
Emotionally hypersensitive
Addicted to anything that brings pleasure
Co-dependency
Overactive sex-drive
Negative/destructive emotions
Sacral chakra imbalances can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, fertility issues, urinary tract infections, lower back pain, and kidney issues.*
Regaining balance can be as simple as finding what ignites your spirit: paint, draw, dance, write...whatever brings true joy. Go do it! Let yourself be taken over by the simple act of just being. Practice fully feeling your emotions. Embrace what you are feeling and if it doesn't serve your higher being in a positive light, let it flow away from you. Yoga and meditation practices are powerful ways to achieve this type of emotional mindfulness. To increase the effectiveness, essential oils such as ginger, orange, or bergamot can be placed in a diffuser.
The color orange, which is associated with the sacral chakra, is a powerful influencer. Surrounding yourself in orange light, eating orange foods that nourish your body, or simply wearing orange impact the energies that flow around you. Pay attention to how you feel and what you are thinking when doing any of these things. Learning to be mindful about what you are feeling is a fantastic guide in releasing the blockages.
If you are finding it difficult to regain balance using these methods, the introduction of a Reiki healer has the potential to be an added boost to your system. The healing energy that is cultivated not just in the sacral chakra, but throughout the entire system, allows you to rest and regain balance simultaneously. At times, multiple Reiki sessions may be needed, depending on the severity of the blockage. Once balance is created, it's important to keep in mind that balance only remains when you activity seek it.
Take the time today to tune into yourself. Are there any blockages you can identify, even if it is just feeling them? Give yourself permission to turn to peace and joy and live your most authentic life.
